Job Description: |
The Vice President of Information Technology is responsible for working with Senior Management to develop all Company-wide IT initiatives for business, production and financial systems. This position also manages all IT functions for Company’s parent, Liberty Media. Responsible for the overall direction and administration of the IT systems and services provided for the Company. Directs a diverse organization that provides financial, business, and administrative support services, which are fundamental to both the conduct of the department and the achievement of its operational and financial objectives. Directs and coordinates the activities of the IT Department, including enterprise application development, telecommunications, computer operations, networking, help desk, web applications, desk top, training, and database administration. Significant portions of the employee’s time are spent advising Senior Management on financial issues, interacting with customers, and analyzing budgets and forecasts. Negotiating contracts, developing and selling strategic initiatives, are of extreme importance. The employee must support and be responsive to setting priorities and resolving issues consistent with their requirements, as well as governing regulation or law, especially regarding IT requirements for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. The employee’s principal challenge is to ensure the accurate appraisal, interpretation, and analysis of IT initiatives to support the Companies growth and financial results, while also providing analysis, interpretation, and justification of budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.
Contribute to the general business planning regarding IT systems and applications required to maintain Company operations and competitiveness. Recognize new developments in systems and software; plan and execute projects to meet Company’s business requirements. Develop analysis and business strategy based on desktop and enterprise applications, networks, storage and infrastructure. Establish long-term needs for the Company’s IT systems, and plan strategies for developing systems, acquiring or developing software, and acquiring hardware to meet application needs. Ensure confidentiality and reliability of corporate data, proprietary information, and intellectual property. Function as the top-level contact to assist end users in determining new technology requirements and solutions, supporting existing business and new business opportunities.
Formulate and implement strategic technology plans; manage department P&L.
Manage departmental staff with specific technological or administrative functions.
Provide short-term and long-term forecasts and reports by directing research collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data. Continue to monitor and design long-term IT objectives consistent with Company goals and objectives. Coordinate and administer, with direction from Senior Management, the Company’s long-range strategic planning activities. Contribute to Company effectiveness by identifying short-range and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; and implementing directives. Establish and direct the strategic and tactical goals, policies, and procedures related to information technologies and services. Develop primary goals, operating plans, policies, near-term and long-range objectives for the IT Department. Direct and coordinate activities to achieve profit and return on capital. Maintain information technology staff by recruiting, selecting, training, coaching, counseling, and taking corrective action as necessary, and by monitoring and evaluating job performance. Establish Department organizational structure and delegate authority to subordinates. Recommend information technology strategies, organizations, policies, and procedures by evaluating business requirements, identifying problems, evaluating trends, and anticipating requirements. Develop a state-of-the-art system, application and infrastructure environment by developing solutions to meet Company business and organizational goals; then recommending and implementing these solutions. Lead the IT staff towards objectives. Meet with and advise other executives and review results of business operations. Represent the Company to financial community, major customers, government agencies, shareholders, and the public. Develop the annual budget and monitor this in conjunction with the Finance and Accounting Department. Recommend annual program goals to Senior Management. Ensure that an ongoing program evaluation system is in place related to such goals and that reports of progress are provided, on a regular basis. Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures appropriate to the day-to-day operation of the Department and ensure these are readily available. Direct the development, implementation, operation, maintenance, and control of essential business, information, and operations support systems. Define key organizational objectives, supporting their achievement, and measuring/reporting results. Select and maintain qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and recommend compensation for them. Direct, monitor, and appraise the performance of units immediately reporting to your department and provide the necessary coordination between activities. Identify training needs; initiate development of subordinates; and recommend effective personnel action. Keep employees informed as to Company/departmental plans and progress.
Evaluate new opportunities and fully negotiate and manage agreements. Other business operations, as assigned.

Required Skills: | Bachelor's Degree in computer science, business with IT/MIS major, engineering or equivalent field required. Master’s degree in Business Administration, preferred. Minimum of twelve years experience, in information technology required. Minimum of seven years management and supervisory experience required. Must have strong strategic, analytical, and creative skills. Must have a strong work ethic, integrity, and good business acumen.
