General Job Description:
|
This position will be responsible for negotiating, drafting, and reviewing development, production, and co-production agreements for television pilots and series. The incumbent in this position will be involved with the distribution and licensing of such content and ancillary rights related to the acquisition of international and domestic television and film product for all forms of worldwide distribution, including home video, new media technology, and broadband services. Negotiate, draft and review development, production and co-production agreements, agreements, and other content production agreements in all media platforms (including script development, third-party projects, product integration, talent, producer and writer, test options, co-production and digital distribution). Supervise legal aspects of production of programming. Provide counsel related to the advertising, marketing and promotions functions of the business, including contests and sweepstakes. Analyze and evaluate rights issues in connection with content distribution, including guild rules, residuals, participations, copyright, and trademark. Responsible for synthesizing complex transactional matters into deal memos and agreements. Responsible for maintaining high level of visibility and credibility across business units and entities within Starz Media and the industry as a whole. Act as consultant and coach on a variety of legal matters. Oversee licensing agreements for international distribution of content. Supervise bankruptcy and litigation matters related to production and other complex legal projects.

Required Skills:
|
Juris Doctorate Degree with strong academic credentials from an ABA-accredited law school and CA Bar admission; Minimum eight years experience in Business & Legal Affairs or hands-on experience at one or more reputable law firms, networks, studios and/or media companies handling development and production work for original television series and related transactions; Extensive knowledge of corporate transactions; Experience negotiating deals in network and /or cable television is strongly preferred. Demonstrated superior knowledge of entertainment industry practices as well as established relationships with agencies, management companies and business & legal executives at major content providers. Demonstrate strong guild relationships and experience with negotiating union agreements. Experience supervising delivery of film, television, home video and multimedia elements. Experience reviewing and approving marketing materials. Superior Project Management abilities to successfully manage multiple projects against tight deadlines in a volatile environment. Proven ability to provide specific direction, training and development of support staff. Highly motivated, extremely detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently. Have strong organizational, follow-through, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
